The Rose
Murex Ramosus shell lamp

The name of this shell is Chicoreus ramosus, common name the ramose murex. Ramose is an ancient Egyptian name, meaning "Born of the sun god Ra". In this sense, light is no stranger to this shell.....

Anyway, the shell itself is an interesting object to watch and with the light inside, even more features are visible. This makes the lamp an outstanding decoration item (see pictures below).

There is pink colored line along the spikes of the shell, which is glowing bright in the light. The surface of the shell body is not smooth but rippled (like small waves on a water surface). Each of these ripples is marked by a darker line, which runs around the shell body outward to the spikes. All the the darker lines together, look like rings of a tree.

The curved leaf-like spikes are illuminated on the side pointing to the shell body and darker on the outer side. This highlights the structure of  the spikes and projects interesting shadows on the surrounding walls. In a coiled spiral the body is getting smaller and darker to the top. This shell is elegantly like flower but hard, stiff and spiky on the other side. A rose indeed....

Colors, brightness, usage

Depending on the application, it is possible to design the right brightness for each lamp and the distribution of lamps in a certain area to achieve the desired effect. Generally the light from this shell lamp is evenly distributed in all directions without bright or dark spots and no eye irritation.

Additionally to white, the colored versions of this shell lamp are very interesting for design applications. The colors can be selected to create a certain atmosphere at the location. Depending on the room size a few lamps are enough to create spectacular environment.

  • Blue creates a kind of twilight effect. The light is similar to moonlight on the beach at nighttime.
  • Both blue and green can be used to create a underwater or ocean situation. Locations for the lamp are swimming pool area, bedroom, bathroom, garden, balcony, bar, disco, aquarium, etc
  • Orange and warm white colors are used to create a softer environment. Lights and shadows create a mystery feeling.  Suitable locations are: Dining and wine drinking area, romantic places, bedroom, garden and bathroom.

Available colors are: natural white, red, green, blue,  warm white, orange, pink
